Staff will be dressed in maritime attire from head to toe, and will be on hand
to demonstrate 18th century rope-making, and
describe the life of an eighteenth century sailor. The frolic will take place
on every Saturday between July 3rd and August 21st,
from 12-4 pm.

The Fair’s objective is to promote the area’s the agricultural,
industrial, natural resources and cultural lifestyle, and to conduct
a range of activities for the benefit of Curry County residents. Its wants to
generate enough revenue to make itself self-
sufficient. Carnival and animal shows, a variety of contests, rodeo, a parade
and farm exhibits are available to visitors. The fair
will also be holding seminars and public meetings. Be sure not to miss Saturday’s
Curry Round-Up Talent Show.

The Dallas Summerfest
This year’s theme for the Dallas Summerfest will be pirates, and visitors
will be encouraged to join in our desire to make the
parade as piritecentric as possible. Links are provided to teach you how to
speak and dress like a pirate. The Polk County
Courthouse Lawn will be holding around sixty booths for food, sales and arts
and crafts and waterballing. Sunday’s activities
will shift to a breakfast, car show, the Art in the Park display and a walk
through the Arboretum’s gardens. The Visitor’s
Center can provide information on hotels and other tourist information.

The opening day’s festivities begin with the opening ceremony and an evenings
musical entertainment. The booths open at 10am
on Friday with a mix of kids shows, music and basketball. The day’s bands
will be performing, classic rock, blues, bluegrass,
funk and Americana. Saturday’s breakfast and preparation for the parade
lead to 10am’s parade down Main Street. The Shire
of Briaroak is recreated at noon, and are followed by clowning, the Kids’
Kormer, an afternoon’s rhythm and blues, fireman’s
extraction, awards presentations, and the evening’s bands and fireworks.

Washington County Fair

The Washington County Fair takes place in the fairgrounds at Hillsboro, and
events start at noon on each day. You will be able
to find a number of rides and midway games, as well as the fair’s displays
of livestock, cooking contests, monster trucks, truck
pull events and competitions for everyone. There will be a variety of concerts
on the grounds, as well as food. The fair’s wild
west shows are much sought after and lodging is given on the above link.
Relay for Life

for Life
Relay for Life began in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon in Tacoma,
Washington, ran and walked around a
track for 24 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Since then,
Relay teams camp out at a local high school,
park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path.
Each team is asked to have a representative on
the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays
are overnight events up to 24 hours in length. All
funds raised from the walks are given to the American Cancer Society. Information

The 8th Festival of Nations will be a celebration of music, culture and performing
arts from around the world. There will be
more than sixty vendors from around the world, and will include goods from Armenia,
Bosnia, Cambodia, the Congo, France,
Finland, Greece, South and Central America, the East Indies, Italy, the Indian
tribes, Nigeria, Poland, Romania, Thailand and
