Marketfest is a free family festival in beautiful downtown White Bear Lake that features live entertainment, fine art, a variety of foods, children's activities, a farmers market, a classic car show and much, much more.
The annual summer festival runs Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 pm from mid-June to the end of July…rain or shine.

Despite the recent tornado, the Wadena County Fair is going ahead, with a link
to the tornado clean-up process online. This
year’s events will include fireworks, rides, 4-H project displays, music
and other entertainment. The Fair’s food concessions
are going ahead. Each day has a list of its activities, as do the motocross
and truck and tractor pull pages. There is no entrance
fee.

Boundary Waters Blues Festival
This year’s Festival will be at Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and has moved
from its earlier venues of Ely and Long Beach in
Winton. It is taking place in the Itasca County Fairgrounds. The site says that
‘If your particular breed of dog enjoys blues
music, then leaving him at home is not an option.’ There will be camping
and ablutions on site. The Lineup page gives a full list
of acts, and the Directions page a Google map. This is the 118th fair (with
the first one held in 1907).

Plans are afoot for a Tractor and Truck Pull, the Buffington rodeo, compact
car races, the fair’s 2nd tractorcade, a new bean
bag tournament and a number of carnival rides. Other attractions will be the
escape artist Jonathan Bryce, an 1860’s ballgame
and craft show. You can watch the 2009 tractorcade on the Entertainment page,
along with a full schedule. The 4-H schedule
has its own page, as do directions and maps of the Shady Oak campgrounds. This
year’s ATV training class is new to the Fair.
There will be an Armed Forces Tribute at 1pm on Saturday (hosted by The Good
Thunder Legion Post #616).

The front page’s rundown of events include the 4-H exhibits, grandstand
events, an amateur talent contest, humorous shows, food, a farmland activity
center, a selection of cows, pigs, sheep, goats,
chickens, ducks, rabbits and horses. There is no charge for entry or parking
at the show.

The Forest Hills Community Festival takes place in Forest Lake’s Lakeside
Park. Be prepared to spend the day here, and
enjoy grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, and Taco-in-a-Bag while you are listening
to live music by local artists. There will also be
Activities and Fun Food for the kids. The Festival’s silent auction will
be raising funds that go to various local, national and
international organizations such as Local Helping Hands, Appalachia Service
Project and Feed my Starving Children. Live
music will be played between 10am and 5pm.

The schedule of events at the Washington County Fair’s web site can be
found under attractions. The first two days take up
the Fair’s agricultural entries and judging, and visitors will have to
wait until the opening day of Wednesday 4th in order to
appreciate its exhibits (which include, rabbits, sheep, poultry, beef, swine
and domestic animals. The carnival and other less
agriculturally-oriented activities open on Thursday. See the music page for
